I constantly remind customers of the old adage, "You get what you paid for." Well-made merchandise costs a pretty penny, but whenever we buy something we make an invisible agreement with the object. The promise to last long enough to get our money's worth out of that item.
Many people purchase items that start spilling their dollars as soon as they open the package. Purchasing on the whim can cost you later and that also includes buying cheap stuff.
I am guilty of buying cheap stuff that won't last, but it was purchased with the intent to last as long as the value of money I spent. Major purchases (home stuff and electronics) need to last several years, but still people want whatever is cheapest.
A woman comes up to me, "What's the cheapest set of sheets you got," I look at her and I tell her, "Are you sure you want to go that route?" Then I proceed to tell her what possible consequences can occur if she lets her money fly away so easily. (I'll do another post on the pros and cons of investing in your bed.)
I had this woman leaving my store with a prime thread count and shaking her head in wonder that she just dropped a good penny on some sheets of all things. So buyers be aware of the invisible agreements you make when you buy because without that awareness your just a regular consumer.
