It's been a week since Easter, yet the madness of the day before was mind blowing.
Is it their birthday or what?
I could of sworn that Easter was a Christian holiday representing the resurrection of Christ; however, somewhere in human history appeared a bunny that delivered colored boiled eggs and candy. Now I witness parents, aunts, uncles, and etcetera running around in a manic hysteria searching for Easter "gifts" for many undeserving spoiled brats.
I had the following conversation with my own child on Easter after church.
"So mommy what did you get me for Easter?" he asked.
"There's some candy on the table, matter of fact I bought two types of jelly beans."
"Uhmm...I was thinking maybe I can get some money."
"Is it your birthday? You should be glad you get something on Christmas."
"See I should get something on Christmas and Easter."
"Actually no Christmas is not your birthday and Easter is not your resurrection, so be glad that I bought you some candy. And you know something?"
"What's that?"
"Keep talking and your not going to get anything for Christmas."
The conversation ended with that statement and he went outside to play with his friends, while sharing the jelly beans he received for Easter.
The day before Easter my boss scheduled many of us to work on what was a disappointing display of CEO's (Christmas and Easter Church people) buying lavish clothes for their families. After work I needed to go to the local Walmart to pick-up some much needed household items.
I watched a boy guiding a bicycle to the register, while telling his grandmother that she "would" buy the bike or else. Many men wandered the store with the "lost" look that said "Where did my wife go?" The three seasonal Easter aisles were disorganized and picked through with carts filled with twenty dollar baskets.
I stood in line with my daughter and asked her if she wanted a chocolate bunny. She asked "why?"and I said for no reason. She declined and I smiled in pride as we looked at the couple in front of us unload their several baskets, toys, and candy onto the conveyor belt.
This brings me back to, "Is it their birthday?"
